LOS ANGELES, CA, April 1, 2013 - Aptium Oncology, formerly an oncology management organization with robust information technology capabilities, has completed its transition from oncology management to a company fully dedicated to healthcare IT consulting. Formerly a wholly owned subsidiary of AstraZeneca, the corporation is now 100 percent owned and managed by co-partners Suzanne Bledsoe, vice president of IT, and Wesley Scruggs, chief information officer.

The Los Angeles company, originally founded in 1983 and formerly known as Salick Health Care, was acquired by AstraZeneca in 1998 and renamed Aptium Oncology in 2005. As the pioneer and leader in hospital-based cancer centers, Aptium offered consulting and management expertise to leading institutions around the country, including NCI-designated programs, academic medical centers and community providers.

Scruggs credits Aptium's solid relationships with these premier providers nationwide as impetus for the creation of the new, IT-focused company. "We would not have achieved this transition without the support of institutions like the Clinical Cancer Centers at NYU Langone Medical Center, Alta Bates Summit Medical Center and Tenet Healthcare, among others, who continue to realize the critical role information plays in healthcare, and who recognize the value of Aptium's healthcare IT solutions." Scruggs also notes that Aptium's partnership with Siemens® Medical allows the company to deliver market-leading services to both current and new clients.

"This is an exciting day for our company because we believe the opportunity to help hospitals improve the quality of patient care through information and technology is vital to the future of health care," said Scruggs. Bledsoe adds, "We are focused on developing and configuring information systems to help our clients optimize patient safety." She cites her team's pioneering achievements in oncology-specific EMR as a milestone in Aptium Oncology's history.

To date, Aptium Healthcare IT Consulting has successfully customized and implemented packaged software, converting them to oncology-optimized processes and applications at several ambulatory cancer centers across the country. The company also specializes in supporting Siemens® products to fine-tune and streamline patient management, patient accounting and system integration.

Ian Brimicombe, AstraZeneca's vice president, corporate finance said, "AstraZeneca is extremely proud to have worked with the Aptium Oncology IT team in achieving this seamless transition. I believe the focus on improving the quality and cost-effectiveness of healthcare plays directly into the unique strengths of Wes and Suzanne and their team."
